Wilmington Little Leagues Latest Game Summaries

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Below are several recent Wilmington Little League game summaries:Rookies: Braves vs. Astros on Wednesday, May 30 at North IntermediateThe Rookie Braves and Astros continued their intense season series this past Wednesday night. The Braves were led on defense by Bart Zaino and Tommy Roofe, who both turned unassisted double plays.  Ben Sawyer was also solid in the field.  David Collins, Sean Witalisz, and Vinny Demirev provided plenty of pop at the plate with solid hits. The Astros were led by Danny Tildsley and Ryan Doherty at the plate with excellent defense from Jack Salvador and Joslyn Coughlin.AAA: Astros beat Cardinals, 12-9, on Thursday, May 31 at Boutwell FieldThe Astros and Cardinals played another exciting game filled with late inning comebacks.  JR Haggerty pitched two solids innings for the Cards limiting the Astros to 3 runs.  Connor Lynch made his pitching debut and settled down in his second inning to keep the game close, recording two strikeouts to get out of a jam in the 4th inning.  Ian Heos pitched one inning limiting the Astros offense and giving the Cardinals a chance to rally.  Offensively the charge was led by Jacoby Tibbets with two hits as well as a stellar defensive play at 3rd base to end an Astros rally.  The rest of the offense was led by Andrew Almeda, Connor Lynch and a big double by Ethan Laconte that started the Cardinals scoring.  Almeda played particularly well behind the plate.  The Astros were led on offense by Joe Gronemeyer (two singles, a double, and two runs).  There were many other contributors as well, including Kevin Pruslin, Luke Kitanov, and Will Poyant, all of whom had a single and two walks.  Evan Cummings, Jake Cronin, and Ethan Afthim added singles while John Roofe doubled.  Joe Fennelly and Ronnan Scafiddi also reached base.  Kitanov scored three runs, Fennelly and Afthim scored two each, and Cummings, Cronin, and Roofe rounded out the scoring.  Kyle McDonald, Kitanov, Gronemeyer, Fennelly, Cummings, Cronin, Scafiddi, Pruslin, and Poyant were busy on defense keeping the Cardinals at bay.  Gronemeyer was his usual dominant self on the mound striking out five in three innings.  Roofe struck out two in his inning and Cummings struck out one in his.AAA: Giants beat Astros, 14-3, on Saturday, June 2 at Boutwell FieldThe Giants continued their excellent play this season with a well-rounded game against the Astros.  Ronan Uftring pitched five dominant innings with nine strikeouts and Ryan Gray shut the door in the last inning.  The versatile Gray also went three for four.  Shane McDonald belted a huge triple and Mickey Moroney had a line shot to left.  Nolan Richards scored twice.  The Astros’ Will Poyant had another great outing on the mound, keeping the Giants at bay for three innings (which included four strikeouts and a nice play in the field).  Tim Watson struck out one and Ethan Afthim threw well once again (also making a great catch while on the mound).  Joe Gronemeyer blasted a triple while Poyant, Luke Kitanov, and John Roofe supplied the only other hits.  Afthim and Watson were the only others to reach base.  The Astros had one of their better defensive games as some great plays, throws, and alert positioning by Joe Fennelly, Evan Cummings, Jake Cronin, Ronan Scafiddi, Kevin Pruslin, Roofe, Poyant, Afthim, and Watson among others kept the game within reach.Single A: Cardinals vs. Astros on Monday, June 4 at North IntermediateIn front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Cardinals had a great game with Tommy MacGilvray, Zach Maiella, & Tommy Demers among many contributing hits.  Brendan Cohen and Justice Eutsay caught great games and made some stellar stops behind the plate. Max Glazer flashed gold glove caliber defense with a pair of great stops at the hot corner, and Matthew Norton and Spencer Walker each came out firing with top-notch pitching performances.  The Astros had big games from many of its players.  Sam Beaudoin, Jackson Cipolle, Joe Mytych, and Dante Capozzi all had big hits for the Astros .  In the field, CJ Morad, Robby DeMedeiros, Jake Grylick and Caden Merritt all made strong defensive plays for the slick fielding Astros.  Nicholas Maninos made his pitching debut and the game was closed out by Dylan Costantiello.  Masen Voner did a fine job defensively behind the plate for the Astros.(NOTE: Summaries provided by the Wilmington Little League.)Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook.
