Bandh by Congress, BJP hits life in Odisha

first_imgNormal life was affected across Odisha on Wednesday owing to the ‘dawn-to-dusk’ shutdown called by Congress and BJP demanding justice to the minor girl who committed suicide three months after being allegedly gangraped by four men in uniform in Kunduli area of Koraput district.Hundreds of commuters were stranded at various railway stations and bus stands during the day as activists belonging to both the parties blocked traffic. However, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the State.While many trains were delayed and passenger buses and trucks remained off the roads, markets, banks and educational institutions remained closed during the day.While Congress had called for a bandh and BJP observed a hartal, activists of the two parties clashed at a few places. Hundreds of activists and leaders were taken into custody by the police who had made elaborate arrangements to keep the situation under control.last_img
