Heavy rain in Baitarani River catchment has resulted in floods in several blocks of Bhadrak and Jajpur district of Odisha on Tuesday.“About 20,000 people in 25 villages of Bhandraripokhari block of Bhadrak have been affected. Flood water has entered several areas of Dhamnagar block. Close 1000 hectares of cropland have been submerged in flood water,” said Bishnupada Sethi, Special Relief commissioner here on Tuesday.Two power boats and one health team have been deployed in Solampur village under Bhandaripokhari block while Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force team has been stationed at Dhamnagar. Similar situation was noticed in Jajpur, Dasarathpur and Korei of Jajpur district.Meanwhile, rise in water level in river Subarnarekha at Rajghat triggered flood like situation in five gram panchayats in Baliapal block of Balasore district.At 6.00 PM on Tuesday, the river Baitarani was flowing at 37 meter against danger level of 38.36 meter at Anandpur with a falling trend. Similarly, the river is flowing at 18.56 meter against danger level of 17.83 meter at Akhuapada in Keonjhar district. The situation is expected to become normal by Wednesday.
