FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas sophomore Alex Hanson and Southeastern Louisiana junior Brian Donna are the Southland Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com. This marks Southeastern’s fourth consecutive men’s outdoor field honor. Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week – Alex Hanson, Central Arkansas – So. – Thatcham, EnglandHanson put together an impressive well-rounded outing at the Little Rock Open, taking first in the 5,000m and second in the 400m. He posted a first-place time of 16:43.22 in the 5K and clocked 51.04 in the 400m for second place. Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week – Brian Donna, Southeastern Louisiana – Jr. – Nyack, N.Y.Donna became just the third Lion in program history to score 7,000 points in a decathlon, taking second with 7,030 points at the SFA Carl Kight Invitational. He broke his previous best by 937 points while setting personal bests in the javelin (193-05.5), pole vault (14-03.25), discus (125-01) and 100m (11.12 seconds). He took first in both the javelin and 110m hurdles. The 7,030-point tally ranks first in the Southland by 277 points and is 19th nationally this season. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots. The Bears next host the UCA Open on Friday and Saturday while the Lions host the Southeastern Strawberry Relays on Saturday.
