first_imgLeeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) has been nominated for a prestigious travel industry award.The hub is among ten airports that are in the running to receive the coveted Best UK Airport for Leisure award at the annual British Travel Awards 2008.Leeds Bradford’s nomination comes after a string of new milestone routes have been confirmed at the airport, including direct long-haul flights to Islamabad and cheap flights to New York.Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at LBIA, described the nomination as a “thrill”.He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We are thrilled to have been nominated for the award.”We are proud to be recognised as delivering our widest ever choice of services to Yorkshire and everyone at the airport will eagerly await the judge’s decision in early November.”The owner of LBIA, private equity firm Bridgepoint, recently announced plans for a £70 million expansion.This will include adding more routes and doubling passenger capacity to seven million by 2015.
