first_img0Shares0000Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk (L) has withdrawn from the side to play Estonia on Tuesday for “personal reasons” © AFP / Mark MARLOWBRUSSELS, Belgium, Nov 17 – Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk will miss Tuesday’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Estonia for personal reasons, the Dutch federation announced on Sunday.“The manager Ronald Koeman will not be able to call up Virgil van Dijk on Tuesday against Estonia”, the federation said on its website. “The Dutch captain has had to withdraw from the match for personal reasons and left the training camp immediately.”The Dutch booked their passage to next year’s finals, their first major competition since the 2014 World Cup, with a goalless draw against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Saturday.At stake in Tuesday’s game will be top spot in Group C which is currently held by Germany who are two points ahead of the Dutch.The defender is clear to play for Liverpool against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League at the weekend.0Shares0000(Visited 21 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

POLICE HOPE CCTV FOOTAGE WILL HELP THEM SOLVE REASON BEHIND CAOLAN’S DEATH

first_imgPolice are now trawling through CCTV footage to determine if tragic teenager Caolan Page was attacked before he died.The 19 year old Donegal man died as a result of serious head injuries in Altnagelvin Hospital yesterday.Caolan, form Kildrum Upper in Carrigans, was found around 2am in the early hours of Saturday morning outside a licensed premises. It was initially thought he may have fallen but police began to become suspicious when they realised the former St Columb’s, Derry student had head injuries.A post-mortem examination is being carried out later on today.It is understood he had gone out with friends on Friday night and had become separated from them.It is possible that he was attacked or that he fell from the city walls. Police said they had “obtained CCTV images from the surrounding area and are studying footage to determine what happened.“While these lines of inquiry are being progressed, detectives are still very interested in talking to anyone who may have information about the incident.“Police are particularly keen to speak to people who saw a man collapsed in Magazine Street around 2am on Saturday or who were in the Waterloo Place area around the same time or who came into contact with Caolan.”The principal of St Columb’s College, Sean McGinty, said Caolan was a student of tremendous talent and potential.“Our thoughts at this time are with Caolan’s parents, grandparents, extended family and many close friends who have suffered such sudden and traumatic loss,” he said. “We would ask that you keep Caolan’s family and friends in your prayers at this difficult time.“May Caolan rest in peace.”Foyle DUP MLA Willie Hay said the death was an “awful tragedy”.“People have been contacting me to express their shock at what has happened. “Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the family at this time.“There are people out there who know exactly what happened.“I would appeal to them, irrespective of what information they may have, to come forward so police can find out what happened to this young man.”Messages in tribute to Mr Page have been posted on a social networking site.Mr Hay appealed to people to wait for the findings of the police investigation before commenting on the circumstances of the teenager’s death.“There are so many rumours out there about what happened.“It does not help the family.
